How Prepackaged Medication Dispensing Works

Proficient Rx packages and ships to the practice or clinic.
Your staff handles dispensing to the patient at the point of care.

1
Your practice places the order

A licensed practitioner specifies the drug, strength, and unit-of-use quantity needed.

2
We repackage & label

Each unit is packaged in our NABP-accredited facility with lot number, expiration date, and NDC.

3
Free shipping to your practice

Free shipping with every medication order right to your clinic.

4
Your practice dispenses

Your practitioner or staff hands the medication directly to the patient at checkout, same visit.

Every shipment ships to your doctor’s offices or clinics. Proficient Rx does not ship medication directly to patients. Your licensed practitioner and staff remain the ones dispensing at the point of care.

My staff can dispense a medication in under a minute. They were worried about adding to their daily workflow, but the process has been easy and not time-consuming.

Amy, Clinical Supervisor

Our patients get their medication instantly without an extra stop. The software is very simple to use for ordering, tracking and dispensing the medication to our patients. We couldn’t imagine practicing medicine without it now.

Dr. Smith, Urgent Care Director

Dispensing in office has reduced administrative burdens from pharmacy callbacks. The onboarding process was very easy and the software integrates seamlessly into EMRs.

Dr. Chen, Orthopedic Specialist

Proficient Rx made integration seamless and our patients love leaving with their medication. We have noticed an increase in medication compliance.

Dr. Ross, Family Practice

Our clinic sees a high volume of Worker’s Compensation patients. With the help of Proficient Rx we added In Office physician dispensing to our clinic. They have been very helpful with the setup process and provided excellent training for the dispensing software. We have already seen an increase in our revenue and our patients have commented on how nice it is to receive their medications at the time of their visit rather than waiting at the pharmacy.

Prepackaged Medications FAQs

Does Proficient Rx ship medication directly to my patients?

No. Every order ships to your practice or clinic. Your licensed practitioner or staff dispenses the medication directly to the patient at the point of care — Proficient Rx never ships to a patient’s home.

Does my state allow physician dispensing?

Rules vary by state. See our guide to physician dispensing laws or call us and we’ll help you check your state’s requirements.

How quickly will my order arrive?

Orders are shipped the same day they are packaged and include free shipping.

Can you package controlled substances?

Yes. Our facility is DEA and FDA approved to package Schedule 2, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 controlled substances, in addition to OTCs, vitamins, and nutraceuticals.

What batch sizes do you support?

We run batches as small as 100 units up to 1 million units, so orders scale with your practice’s size and patient volume.

Can prepackaged medication be dispensed for workers’ compensation patients?

Yes. Practices treating workers’ comp patients can dispense the same prepackaged medication at the point of care. Billing and reimbursement for workers’ comp claims run through our separate Workers’ Compensation Dispensing program.
